Understanding Performance Anxiety
Learn what happens in your mind and body when pressure rises.
Fast heart rate, shallow breathing, hot hands, a busy stomach — that is your body making energy available. The signature of readiness and the signature of anxiety are nearly identical.
The label you give it matters. 'I'm activated' keeps the energy usable. 'I'm falling apart' spends it on worry.
If activation is genuinely too high, lengthen the exhale — the fastest lever you have. Then put attention on your first action.
Persistent, distressing anxiety that spills outside sport deserves support from a licensed professional, not just better technique.
